Peacemaking from Within: Adaptive Mediation of Direct Dialogue in Mozambique’s New Peace Process (2013–2019)

Mozambique has faced several cycles of violent conflict and decades peace negotiations resulting in three main agreements: the 1992 General Peace Agreement, 2014 Cessation Military Hostilities 2019 Maputo Accord for Reconciliation. This chapter will examine adaptive nature 2013–2019 process while extracting key factors strategies that enabled signature a new agreement on August 6, 2019. Adaptive mediation nationally owned direct dialogue were essential amid increasing complexity uncertainty. The effectiveness later stage resulted from discreet strategy accentuated agency, interdependence, between both parties, making it possible to emerge within.
